Low-Voltage (LV) and Industrial Facility Solutions

The LV side is where energy leaving the substation gets distributed through the facility; each stage requires its own sizing.

20% Spare Busbar Capacity
< 30 ms RCD Trip Time
Below 5% Acceptable Voltage Drop

One point of responsibility, from panel to socket

Power distribution between the main distribution panel, compensation panel and sub-panels is assessed together with cable cross-section and protection device selection. An undersized cable cross-section overheats under full load and causes voltage drop.

The protection device used on each circuit is chosen according to load type; a thermal-magnetic breaker is preferred on motor lines, while a lower-threshold residual current device is used for sensitive electronic loads.

If the short-circuit breaking capacity is chosen lower than the power available at the panel's supply point, the protection device itself gets damaged at the moment of the fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the capacity of an existing MDP panel be increased?
Panel expansion is possible if the busbar system's physical capacity and the incoming supply line are sufficient; otherwise a new panel is recommended.
When does a compensation panel become necessary?
At facilities with a high inductive load ratio, once the power factor drops below a certain level the distribution company can apply a penalty, which is when compensation becomes mandatory.
How do you determine the cable cross-section calculation?
Load current, cable route length and ambient temperature are evaluated together and calculated per TS HD 60364.
Is a site survey mandatory for industrial facility projects?
Yes, correct sizing isn't possible without seeing the existing infrastructure and load distribution on site.
Why are lighting and machine lines designed on separate circuits?
This separation keeps a fault on one line from affecting the others and allows only the relevant circuit to be isolated during maintenance.
